there’s no such thing as a free lunch
…but in paris there is such a thing as a free dinner. And quiet often and in many places, too. So, if you don’t insiste in eating every single day, you might make it through the week without paying for your food at all.
- LES FONTAINES ****
153 rue Saint-Maur, 11eme
Métro: 3 – Rue St Maur / 2 – Couronnes
Les Fontaines is the first and up to now the only Place I’ve been to. The Couscous is served in the middle of the table, so everyone can take as much as they want. While the meat (it might be chicken, sausages or beef or a combination) is served only once per table you can have as much couscous and sauce as you like. The beer was 3 Euro in th early days, but now it changed to 5 Euro a Pint. Still its a very nice Place and probably will be my favourite Place for all time, since I already went there about 10 times. The only thing you really need to get used to is the strange party-music they play (sometimes very loud) and the tv-screens (which i personally hate in a bar, except for watching football of course). All in all there is a weird Ibiza atmosphere, which doesn’t suit the bar at all. But its suits the owners very well. And they are very friendly, very kind, so in the end it’s all good. From friends I heard that the couscous is rather very good compared to other places, but I will add my personal judgements later.
° if you are a large group it makes sense to come around 8 pm, if not its fine to come until 10.
° couscous is served from 9 pm
° 5 Euro for a Pint / Wine is cheaper, but i dont remember^^
